Remote Full-Stack Rails Developer

Rocket House Inc (RHI) is seeking a part-time remote Ruby on Rails full-stack web engineer. We’re looking for a mid-to-senior level Ruby-on-Rails engineer, who’s been in the trenches for a few years, knows their stuff and wants to own the back-end piece of the stack.

This role will directly support RHI’s flagship clients and their classic logistics products. RHI’s flagship clients are major beverage suppliers operating primarily within North America with operations in other major international regions.

Role and Job Details

Our typical stack is a Javascript-based browser app powered by a Rails-based API. The emphasis for this role is Ruby on Rails, but it will also touch many parts of the stack, including the Javascript components. This role will be focused on our legacy projects, some of which have been operational for over eight years.

Since we support multiple clients, this will be an hourly role where you'll track your hours. We’re looking for someone who wants flexibility in their schedule and can work an average of 20-30 hour workweeks, most of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, refactor, build features and perform bug fixes as needed and requested by the client

  • Work to eliminate accumulated technical debt as directed by the Product Lead

  • Collaborate with Product Lead to inform and refine feature requests to minimize technical complexity

  • Estimate task complexity and help prioritize tickets based on need and ticket scope

  • Be nimble and react quickly to changing business conditions

Required Experience

  • 3-5 years building, deploying, and maintaining Ruby-on-Rails powered apps

  • 2+ years of experience developing apps using API-driven JavaScript frameworks

  • Direct experience working with Rails version 5 through version 6

  • Proficiency with web-development standards and practices

  • Fluent in Ruby and Javascript

  • Experienced with Linux, AWS, and Docker

  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal

  • English: intermediate-advanced or better

Preferred Experience

  • Understanding of warehouse and inventory management, shipping logistics, and route planning

  • Working with container orchestration systems such as Docker Swarm

  • Experience with Vue.js and/or BackboneJS

  • Previous experience working remotely
